The 5 Finger Meditation

From 0 to Calm in 30 seconds flat

This exercise is intended to help you focus on your breath, but it also involves:

  • movement (the action of drawing the outline of your hand),
  • touch (using your index finger to touch the fingers of your opposite hand), and
  • vision (since you’re required to focus on a specific shape).
  • You could also say it involves proprioception, which is your body’s ability to sense movement, action and location.

As I mention in the video, The 5 Finger Meditation is a simple, self-guided exercise that is often taught to children to help them learn to be calm and meditate. If you draw the shape of your hand from thumb to pinky and back, it should take you (and/or your kids) about 60 seconds!

By the way, this is a great exercise to do WITH your kids – because it can help both of you chill out in the moment, plus it is a phenomenal way to help the kids in your life build positive, stress-managing, life-changing habits.

I’m still astonished at how effective your program was for me.”

Just finished The 8 Weeks to Awesome. Inadvertently lost 20 pounds which wasn’t even the objective. It was to help my migraines and eczema, which it did. Way less frequency of flare ups. Headachy at the beginning but no migraines since! I’m back to my university weight! Kudos to your program. It’s well put together to keep you consistent through it.
